Important: The following steps must be completed before using the symptom tables.

  1. Perform the Diagnostic System Check - Entertainment System before using the Symptom Tables in order to verify that all of the following are true:
  2. • There are no DTCs set.
    • The control module(s) can communicate via the serial data link.
  3. Review the system operation in order to familiarize yourself with the system functions. Refer to the following system operations:
  4. •  Radio/Audio System Description and Operation
    •  Video Entertainment System Description and Operation

Visual/Physical Inspection

    • Inspect for aftermarket devices which could affect the operation of the Entertainment System. Refer to Checking Aftermarket Accessories .
    • Inspect the easily accessible or visible system components for obvious damage or conditions which could cause the symptom.

Intermittent

Faulty electrical connections or wiring may be the cause of intermittent conditions. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems.

Symptom List

Refer to a symptom diagnostic procedure from the following list in order to diagnose the symptom.

    •  Radio Poor Reception
    •  Audio Distortion - One or More Speakers
    •  Radio Controls Inoperative - Rear Seat
    •  Rear Seat Audio Power Indicator Always On
    •  Tape Player Weak, Slow, or Garbled Output
    •  Steering Wheel Controls Inoperative
    •  Speakers Inoperative - One or More
    •  Video Entertainment System Troubleshooting Hints
    •  Video Entertainment System Inoperative
    •  Video Cassette Player (VCP) Inoperative
    •  Radio Audio Inoperative with Video Entertainment System and Rear Seat Audio (RSA) Off
    •  Rear Speakers Do Not Mute with Video Entertainment System On
    •  Video Audio Inoperative
    •  Video Entertainment System Wireless Headphone Inoperative
    •  Video Entertainment System Reduced Volume - One or More Speakers
    •  Video Display is Poor or Blank but Backlighting is On
    •  Video Entertainment System Remote Control Inoperative
    •  Video Cassette Player (VCP) Controls Inoperative or Erratic
    •  Auxiliary Video Audio Reduced or Inoperative
    •  Auxiliary Video Display is Poor or Blank
