Are all of the speakers inoperative?

Adjust the radio balance and fade to the suspect speaker.

Does the speaker operate properly?

  1. Remove the radio. Refer to Radio Replacement .
  2. Use an appropriate jumper to momentarily touch a 1.5 volt battery between the appropriate speaker circuits.

Does the speaker emit an audible pop?

Go to Step 8

Test the circuits of the appropriate speaker for an open, or high resistance. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Inspect for poor connections at the speaker. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

  1. Turn the radio on.
  2. Adjust the fade and balance controls to the center.

Do the speakers operate properly?

Are all of the speakers inoperative?

While the radio is on, turn on the rear seat audio module.

Does sound return in any of the speakers?

Is the inoperative speaker in one of the front doors?

Play a video in the video entertainment system.

Is the suspect speaker inoperative during video playback?

Go to Step 10

Important: Test the front speaker outputs at the radio connector. Test the rear speaker outputs between the radio connector and the audio/video interface module connector A side, and at the rear seat audio module connector A side, and at the video display connector J-3.

Test all the speaker output circuits for:

    • Short to ground.
    • Short to voltage.

Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Test the rear speaker output circuits for:

    • Short to ground.
    • Short to voltage.

Important: Test the rear speaker outputs at the audio/video interface module control connector B side, and at the rear seat audio module connector B side, and at the video display connector J-3.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Test all the front speaker output circuits for:

    • An open.
    • High resistance.

Note: Test the front speaker outputs at the radio connector.

Test the rear speaker output circuits for:

    • An open.
    • High resistance.

Note: Test the rear speaker outputs at the audio/video interface module connector B side, and at the video display connector J-3.

Do the repair speakers play loud during video playback?

Test the antenna relay coil supply voltage circuit for:

    • An open.
    • Short to ground.

Note: The antenna relay coil supply voltage circuit is used as a radio on signal to the video entertainment system in this application.

Test the rear speaker output circuits for:

    • An open.
    • High resistance.

Important: Test the rear speaker outputs at the audio/video interface module connector A side, and at the video display connector J-3.

  1. Inspect for poor connections at the radio, the RSA module the video display, and the audio/video interface module. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.
  2. If a poor connection is not found, replace the audio/video interface module. Refer to Audio/Video Rear Seat Audio Tee Module Replacement
