Schematic Reference: Video System Schematics

DEFINITION: The PLAY, STOP, FF, REW and other buttons on the VCP remote control do not operate the VCP. The PLAY, STOP, FF, REW and other buttons on the VCP do operate OK.

Did you perform Diagnostic System Check - Entertainment System ?

  1. Turn ON the ignition.
  2. Turn on the wireless headphones.
  3. Turn off the radio and the RSA module.
  4. Turn on power to the video cassette player (VCP) and the video display.
  5. Insert a pre-recorded VHS tape in the VCP and press the PLAY button on the VCP. The video display plays video from the VCP. Video audio plays through the overhead speakers, liftgate speakers and the wireless headphones (both channels).
  6. Test the rewind, fast forward, stop and eject functions from the button on the face of the VCP. The VCP performs the appropriate function. A corresponding message appears on the video display.
  7. Test the play, rewind, fast forward, stop and eject functions from the VCP remote control. The VCP performs the appropriate function. A corresponding message appears on the video display.

Does the system operate normally?

Test the operation of the rear video system using a known good remote control.

Is the rear video system operation normal?

Go to Step 4

Test and, as needed, replace the batteries in the remote control. If OK, replace the remote control.

Test the VCP/DVD command serial data circuit for the following conditions:

    • An open
    • High resistance
    • A short to ground
    • A short to voltage

Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector C1 of the auxiliary module. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector C1 of the video display. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.
