  1. Place gear selector in the PARK position.
  2. Turn the ignition switch to the START position.
  3. Observe the SECURITY indicator.

Does the indicator stay on or flash continuously?

Perform the battery load test. Refer to Battery Not Operating Properly .

  1. Remove the INJECTOR fuse 7 from the RH IP fuse block to prevent the engine from starting.
  2. Turn the ignition switch to START.
  3. Using a J 39200 digital multimeter (DMM), measure the voltage at the starter solenoid terminal S (PPL) to ground.

Is the measured voltage within the specified range?

Greater than 8 V

  1. Turn the ignition switch to START.
  2. Using a DMM, measure the voltage between the starter enable relay terminal A2 (PPL) and ground.

Is the measured voltage within the specified range?

Greater than 8 V

  1. Connect a DMM between battery positive voltage (B+) and the park/neutral position (PNP) switch connector C1 terminal G (YEL).
  2. Place the gear selector lever in the PARK position.

Is the measured voltage within the specified range?

10-15V

  1. Connect a DMM between the starter enable relay terminal C2 (PPL) and ground.
  2. Place the ignition switch in START.

Is the measured voltage within the specified range?

10-15V

  1. Remove the AIRBAG/VATS fuse 2E from the IP fuse block.
  2. Connect a DMM between the AIRBAG/VATS fuse 2E connector terminal B1and ground.
  3. Place the ignition switch in START.

Is the measured voltage within the specified range?

10-15V

  1. Turn the ignition switch to START.
  2. Using a DMM, measure the voltage at the starter enable relay terminal C1 (YEL) to ground.

Is the measured voltage within the specified range?

10-15V

Check for an open in CKT 575 (YEL).

Is the circuit OK?

  1. Check for poor terminal contact at starter solenoid terminal S (PPL).
  2. Check for a dirty or poor ground between the starter motor and engine block.
  3. If OK, replace the starter motor . Refer to Starter Motor Replacement .

Repair the open or short to ground in CKT 6 (PPL).

Connect a DMM between battery positive voltage (B+) and the PNP switch connector C1 terminal E (YEL/BLK).

  1. Check the theft deterrent module connector foor poor terminal contact.
  2. If OK, replace the theft deterrent module. Refer to Theft Deterrent Module Replacement in Theft Deterrent.

  1. Repair the short to ground in CKT 806 (PPL).
  2. Replace the AIRBAG/VATS fuse 2E in the IP fuse block.
