Removal Procedure

    Caution: This vehicle is equipped with a Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) System. Failure to follow the correct procedure could cause the following conditions:

       • Air bag deployment
       • Personal injury
       • Unnecessary SIR system repairs
    In order to avoid the above conditions, observe the following guidelines:
       • Refer to SIR Component Views in order to determine if you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring.
       • If you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring, disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System.

  1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System in SIR.
  2. Remove the instrument panel (IP) assembly. Refer to Instrument Panel Assembly Removal .

  3. Object Number: 473705  Size: SH
  4. Remove the following components from the stud:
  5. • The fastener
    • The starter enable relay (1)
  6. Disconnect the starter enable relay connector.
  7. Remove the starter enable relay (1).

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 473705  Size: SH
  1. Install the starter enable relay connector.
  2. Position the relay (1) over the stud.

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the fastener to the stud.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the fastener to 4.5 N·m (40 lb in).

  5. Install the IP assembly. Refer to Instrument Panel Assembly Removal .
  6. Enable the SIR system. Refer to Enabling the SIR System in SIR.
