Automatic Door Lock Operation Modes

    • Shift out of PARK lock enabled (modes 2, 3 and 4): Locks all doors when shifting the transaxle out of PARK with the driver's door closed.
    • Ignition OFF unlock enabled (mode 3): Unlocks all doors when turning the ignition switch from the RUN to the UNLOCK position.
    • Shift into PARK unlock enabled (mode 4): Unlocks all doors when shifting the transaxle into PARK.

Shift Out of PARK Lock

The BCM locks the doors when these conditions are met:

    • Automatic door lock operation mode 2, 3 or 4 is enabled. Refer to Changing the Automatic Door Lock Operation Mode below.
    • The driver's door is closed.
    • The ignition switch is in the RUN position.
    • Shifting the transaxle into PARK.

Ignition Off Unlock

The BCM unlocks the doors when these conditions are met:

    • Automatic door lock operation mode 3 is enabled. Refer to Changing the Automatic Door Lock Operation Mode below.
    • Shifting the transaxle into PARK.
    • Turning the ignition switch from RUN to LOCK or OFF position.

Shift into PARK Unlock

The BCM unlocks the doors when these conditions are met:

    • Automatic door lock operation mode 4 is enabled. Refer to Changing the Automatic Door Lock Operation Mode below.
    • The ignition switch is in the RUN position.
    • Shifting the transaxle into PARK.

Changing the Automatic Door Lock Operation Mode

Perform the following procedure to change the automatic door lock operation mode:

  1. Turn off the IP dimmer switch.
  2. Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.
  3. Remove the BCM PRGRM fuse.
  4. Turn the ignition switch to the ACC position.
  5. • The BCM sounds the chime a number of times equivalent to the BCM type installed on the vehicle (1, 2, 3, or 4 chimes).
    • Now the BCM has entered the feature customization mode.
  6. To change the automatic door lock operation mode, press and release the LOCK on either door lock switch.
  7. • The BCM sounds the chime a number of times equivalent to the automatic door lock operation mode.
    • A transition past mode 4 repeats the sequence starting with mode 1.

The automatic door lock operation modes are as follows:

To exit and save the current customization mode:

  1. Turn the ignition switch to the lock position.
  2. Reinstall the BCM PRGRM fuse.

If unable to change lock modes, refer to Automatic Door Locks Inoperative for diagnosis and repair.

Locking Control Modes

    • Last door closed locking enabled (modes 3 and 4): When pressing LOCK on either door lock switch with the ignition switch in the LOCK position, this mode locks all doors five seconds after closing all vehicle doors.
    • Lockout prevention enabled (modes 2 and 4): When pressing LOCK on either door lock switch with the key in the ignition cylinder and the driver's door is open, the BCM does not lock the doors.

Last Door Closed Locking

The BCM activates the last door closed locking feature when these conditions are met:

    • Locking control mode 3 or 4 is enabled. Refer to Changing the Locking Control Mode below.
    • Open vehicle door.
    • The key removed from the ignition switch, thus disabling lockout prevention.
    • Press lock once on a door lock switch or keyless entry transmitter (if equipped with RPO AU0).

Upon pressing lock, the BCM to sound the chime 3 times. This provides feedback indicating that the last door closed locking feature is active. 5 (+/- 0.5) seconds after all doors are closed, the BCM locks all doors.

To cancel this feature:

    • Press unlock on a door lock switch, or keyless entry transmitter (if equipped).
    • Turn the ignition switch to the ACC or RUN position.

To override this feature: Press lock twice. The BCM locks all doors immediately with a door still open.

Lockout Prevention

The BCM does not lock the vehicle doors when pressing lock on either door lock switch with the lockout prevention feature active. The BCM activates the lockout prevention feature when these conditions are met:

    • Locking control mode 2 or 4 is enabled. Refer to Changing the Locking Control Mode below.
    • The driver's door is open.
    • The key is fully inserted in the ignition switch cylinder.

When the lockout prevention feature is active, the BCM disables the following door lock features:

    • All door lock.
    • Last door closing locking.
    • Key cylinder unlock.
    • Keyless entry system unlock (if equipped with RPO AU0).

Lockout Prevention Override

To override the lockout prevention feature, press and hold lock on the LF door lock switch for three seconds. This action causes the BCM to lock all doors immediately.

Changing the Locking Control Mode

Perform the following procedure to change the locking control mode:

  1. Turn off the IP dimmer switch.
  2. Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.
  3. Remove the BCM PRGRM fuse.
  4. Turn the ignition switch to the ACC position.
  5. • The BCM sounds the chime a number of times equivalent to the BCM type installed on the vehicle (1, 2, 3, or 4 chimes).
    • Now the BCM has entered the feature customization mode.
  6. To change the locking control mode; press and release the UNLOCK on either door lock switch.
  7. • The BCM sounds the chime a number of times equivalent to the locking control mode.
    • A transition past mode 4 repeats the sequence starting with mode 1.
