J 38778 Door Trim Pad and Garnish Clip Remover

Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 315644  Size: MH
  1. Remove the front door switch mounting plate. Refer to Front Door Switch Replacement .
  2. Remove the 2 front door trim panel plugs from under the pull handle.
  3. Remove the screws from behind the trim plugs.
  4. Use J 38778 to disengage the push-in retainers, remove the front door trim panel from the front door inner panel. Begin at the lower rear of the panel.
  5. Support the front door trim panel while disconnecting the electrical connectors.

  6. Disconnect the electrical connectors from the speaker and door reflector light.
  7. Remove the front door trim panel from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure

Important: Before installing the front door trim panel to the inner door, discard the old trim panel retainers. Use new trim panel retainers in order to properly secure the front door trim panel to the front door inner panel.

  1. Install the new front door trim panel retainers to the front door trim panel.
  2. Connect the electrical connectors to the speaker and door reflector light.
  3. Position the front door trim panel to the front door inner panel, making sure the door handle comes through the bezel.
  4. Install the front door trim panel pressing in on the retainers until fully seated.
  5. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  6. Install the trim panel screws to the front door panel.
  7. Tighten
    Tighten the front door trim panel screws to 3 N·m (27 lb in).

  8. Install the front door trim panel plugs over the screws.
  9. Install the front door switch mounting plate. Refer to Front Door Switch Replacement .
