Removal Procedure

  1. Disconnect the battery ground (negative) cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in Engine Electrical.
  2. Pull back the carpet.
  3. Disconnect the accelerator cable and pedal.
  4. • For the 3.1 engine, refer to Accelerator Control Cable Replacement in Engine Controls.
    • For the 3.8 engine, refer to Accelerator Control Cable Replacement in Engine Controls.
  5. Remove the vacuum brake booster. Refer to Power Vacuum Brake Booster Replacement in Hydraulic Brakes.
  6. Remove the bolts from the steering column seal.
  7. Remove the steering column seal.
  8. Remove the steering column. Refer to Steering Wheel Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column-Tilt.

  9. Object Number: 183013  Size: SH
  10. Disconnect the electrical connectors from the instrument panel harness.

  11. Object Number: 183001  Size: SH
  12. Use a small flat-bladed tool in order to push the instrument panel harness grommet through the dash panel reinforcement.
  13. Remove the instrument panel harness through the dash panel reinforcement.
  14. Remove the cross vehicle beam. Refer to Instrument Panel Tie Bar Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gauges and Console.
  15. Remove the nuts from the dash panel reinforcement.

  17. Remove the dash panel reinforcement from the dash.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 183005  Size: SH
  1. Install the dash panel reinforcement to the dash.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the nuts to the dash panel reinforcement.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the dash panel to reinforcement nuts to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

  5. Install the cross vehicle beam. Refer to Instrument Panel Tie Bar Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gauges and Console.

  6. Object Number: 183001  Size: SH
  7. Install the instrument panel harness through the dash panel reinforcement.
  8. Use a small flat-bladed tool in order to push the instrument panel harness grommet through the dash panel reinforcement and seat grommet into the dash panel reinforcement.

  9. Object Number: 183013  Size: SH
  10. Connect the electrical connectors to the instrument panel harness.
  11. Install the steering column seal.
  12. Install the bolts to the steering column seal.
  13. Tighten
    Tighten the steering column seal bolts to 3 N·m (27 lb in).

  14. Install the steering column. Refer to Steering Wheel Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column-Tilt.
  15. Install the vacuum brake booster. Refer to Power Vacuum Brake Booster Replacement in Hydraulic Brakes.
  16. Connect the accelerator cable and pedal.
  17. • For the 3.1 engine refer to Accelerator Control Cable Replacement in Engine Controls.
    • For the 3.8 engine refer to Accelerator Control Cable Replacement in Engine Controls.
  18. Pull the back carpet.
  19. Connect the battery ground (negative) cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in Engine Electrical.
