DEFINITION: The fasten belts indicator lamp in the instrument cluster does not turn on when turning the ignition key from the OFF to the RUN position with the driver's seat belt unfastened. However, the BCM sounds the fasten seat belt reminder chime for six seconds.

  1. Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position.
  2. Observe the instrument cluster gauges and indicators.

Does the instrument cluster gauges and indicators operate normally?

  1. Disconnect the BCM electrical connector C2.
  2. Connect a 5A fused jumper between B+ and the BCM harness connector C2 terminal D12.
  3. Observe the fasten belts indicator lamp.

Is the fasten belts indicator lamp on?

  1. Remove the instrument cluster. Refer to Instrument Panel, Gages and Console for service procedures.
  2. Remove and inspect the fasten belts indicator lamp bulb from instrument cluster.

Is the fasten belts indicator lamp filament open?

Using a DMM, measure the continuity between the BCM harness connector C2 terminal D12 and the instrument cluster harness connector C2 terminal F.

Is the resistance less than the indicated value?

2 ohms

Using a test light, connect between B+ and the instrument cluster harness connector C1 terminal I.

Is the test light on?

    • Inspect the BCM connector C2 terminal D12 for a poor connection.
    • If the connection is OK, then replace the BCM. Refer to Instrument Cluster Replacement

Replace the fastener belt indicator lamp bulb. Refer to Lighting Systems for service procedures.

Repair the poor connection or open in circuit 529.

  1. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
  2. Reinstall connectors/components removed.
  3. Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position for 6 seconds.
  4. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
  5. Remove the MALL PCM Fuse.
  6. Turn the ignition switch to the ACC position. (The BCM sounds the chime a number of times equivalent to the BCM type installed on the vehicle).
  7. Within one second, turn the ignition switch from the ACC position, to the OFF position, then back to the ACC position. (The BCM sounds any DTCs stored).

Are any BCM DTCs present?
