DEFINITION: The fasten belts indicator lamp in the instrument cluster stays on when turning the ignition key from the OFF position to the RUN position with the driver's seat belt fastened, or the fasten belts indicator lamp stays on for over 77 seconds when turning the ignition key from the OFF position to the RUN position with the drivers seat belt unfastened. The BCM sounds the fasten seat belt reminder chime for 6 seconds when turning the ignition key from the OFF to the RUN position with the driver's seat belt unfastened.

  1. Disconnect the BCM connector C2.
  2. Observe the fasten belt indicator.

Is the fasten belt indicator off?

  1. Disconnect the instrument cluster. Refer to Instrument Cluster Replacement .
  2. Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position.
  3. Using a DMM, measure the voltage between the BCM harness connector C2 terminal D12 and ground.

Is there a short to B+ on circuit 529?

Replace the BCM. Refer to Body Control Module Replacement in Body Control System.

The fasten belts indicator lamp stays on due to a malfunction in the instrument cluster. Refer to Instrument Cluster: Analog Schematics for the diagnosis and repair of the instrument cluster.

Repair a short to B+ in circuit 529.

Is the repair complete?

  1. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
  2. Reconnect the connectors and reinstall the components that were removed.
  3. Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position for 6 seconds.
  4. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
  5. Remove the MALL PGM Fuse.
  6. Turn the ignition switch to the ACC position. (The BCM sounds the chime a number of times equivalent to the BCM type installed on the vehicle).
  7. Within one second, turn the ignition switch from the ACC position, to the OFF position, then back to the ACC position. (The BCM sounds any DTCs stored).
