Caution: Fuel Vapors can collect while servicing fuel system parts in enclosed areas such as a trunk. To reduce the risk of fire and increased exposure to vapors:

Notice: Clean all of the following areas before performing any disconnections in order to avoid possible contamination in the system:

Important: For the fuel sender assemblies that are accessible from the rear compartment, completely remove the rear compartment carpet before removing the fuel sender access panel.

Important: Always replace the fuel sender O-rings when you re-install the fuel sender assembly.

Important: The modular fuel sender assembly will spring up when the snap ring is removed.

Important: Always maintain cleanliness when you service the fuel system components.

1. Relieve the fuel system fuel pressure. Refer to Fuel Pressure Relief .
2. Remove the spare tire cover, the jack, and the spare tire.
3. Remove the rear compartment trim panel. Refer to Rear Compartment Trim Panel Replacement in Body Rear End.
4. Remove the nuts that retain the fuel sender access panel.
5. Remove the fuel sender access panel.
6. Disconnect the fuel tank pressure sensor electrical connector.
7. Disconnect the fuel sender electrical connector.
8. Clean the fuel pipes, and clean the fuel sender assembly in order to prevent possible fuel contamination during removal.
9. Disconnect the quick-connect fittings at the fuel sender assembly. Refer to Metal Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service .



10. Remove the fuel sender retaining snap ring.
11. Remove the modular fuel sender assembly.
12. Clean the fuel sender assembly O-ring sealing surfaces.
13. Inspect the fuel sender assembly O-ring sealing surfaces.

Notice: Always re-attach the fuel lines and fuel filter with all original type fasteners and hardware.

Important: Be careful to not to fold over or twist the fuel pump strainer when you install the fuel sender assembly. Folding or twisting will restrict the fuel flow. Ensure that the fuel pump strainer does not block full travel of the float arm.

Important: Be sure that the fuel sender assembly retaining snap ring is fully seated within the tab slots on the fuel tank.

1. Position the new fuel sender assembly O-ring on the fuel tank.
2. Install the fuel sender assembly into the fuel tank.
3. Install the fuel sender assembly retaining snap ring.
4. Connect the fuel sender electrical connector.
5. Connect the fuel tank pressure sensor electrical connector.
6. Connect the quick-connect fittings at the fuel sender assembly. Refer to Metal Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service .
7. Install the fuel filler cap.
8. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in Engine Electrical.
9. Inspect for leaks.

9.1.	Turn ON the ignition, for 2 seconds.

9.2.	Turn OFF the ignition, for 10 seconds.

9.3.	Turn ON the ignition.

9.4.	Inspect for fuel leaks.




10. Install the fuel sender access panel.

Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

11. Install the fuel sender access panel retaining nuts.

Tighten
Tighten the fuel sender access panel nuts to 10 N·m (8 lb ft)

12. Install the rear compartment trim panel. Refer to Rear Compartment Trim Panel Replacement Body Rear End.
13. Install the spare tire, the jack, and the spare tire cover.
