Inspect the battery for the following:

  1. Correct battery installation.
  2. Correct battery terminal installation.
  3. Correct battery cable installation.
  4. Clean and tight ground connections.
  5. Excessive battery terminal corrosion.
  6. Cracking or other damage.
  7. Correct battery voltage.
  8. The battery hydrometer for a green dot.
    • The battery is properly installed.
    • The battery terminals are installed correctly.
    • The battery cables are installed correctly.
    • The ground connections are clean and tight.
    • The battery terminals are clean and tight.
    • The battery is not physically damaged.
    • Battery voltage is approximately 11.5-13.0 volts.
    • The battery hydrometer displays a green dot.
    •  Battery Replacement
    •  Battery Load Test .
    •  Battery Charging .
    •  Battery Check .
    •  Battery Terminal Check .

Inspect the wiring for damage and poor connections at the following components:

  1. The starter motor.
  2. The starter solenoid.
  3. The ignition switch.
  4. All related ground points.

The wiring and connections are in serviceable condition.

Clean, tighten or repair the wiring and connections as necessary. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Start the engine.

    • The solenoid energizes with the ignition switch in the START position.
    • The engine starts.
    • The starter motor stops operating when the ignition switch is released from the START position.
    • The starter motor operates without noise.
    •  Starter No Load Test .
