Did you perform the Starting System Check?

  1. Test for battery voltage at the starter solenoid terminal S.
  2. Engage the parking brake, and place the manual selector lever in the P position or in the N position on automatic transaxle vehicles.
  3. Place the lever that selects the gear in neutral, and depress the clutch on manual transaxle vehicles.
  4. Turn the ignition switch to the START position.

Is battery voltage present?

Go to Step 3

Replace the starter solenoid. Refer to Starter Motor Replacement and to Starter Motor Overhaul .

Is the repair complete?

Go to Starting System Check

  1. Test for battery voltage at terminal 5 of the park/neutral position (PNP) switch with the ignition switch in the START position on automatic transaxle vehicles.
  2. Depress the clutch pedal. Turn the ignition switch to the START position.Test for battery voltage at terminal 2 of the clutch pedal position (CPP) switch on manual transaxle vehicles.

Is battery voltage present?

Go to Step 5

Repair the open in one of the following locations. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

    • The BLK/YEL wire between the PNP switch and the starter solenoid
    • The BLK/YEL wire between the CPP switch and the starter solenoid

Is the repair complete?

Go to Starting System Check

  1. Test for battery voltage at terminal 6 of the PNP switch with the ignition switch in the START position on automatic transaxle vehicles.
  2. Depress the clutch pedal. Turn the ignition switch to the START position. Test for battery voltage at terminal 1 of the CPP switch on manual transaxle vehicles.

Is battery voltage present?

Go to Step 7

    • Replace the PNP switch on automatic transaxle vehicles. Refer to Transaxle Range Switch in Automatic Transaxle.
    • Replace the CPP switch on manual transaxle vehicles. Refer to Clutch Pedal Position Switch Replacement in Clutch.

Is the repair complete?

Go to Starting System Check

  1. Test for battery voltage at connector 6 terminal 15 of the junction block with the ignition switch in the START position on automatic transaxle vehicles.
  2. Depress the clutch pedal. Turn the ignition switch to the START position. Test for battery voltage at connector 6 terminal 15 of the junction block on manual transaxle vehicles.

Is battery voltage present?

Go to Step 9

Repair the open in one of the of the following locations. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

    • The BLK/RED wire between the PNP switch and the junction block
    • The BLK/RED wire between the CPP switch and the junction block

Is the repair complete?

Go to Starting System Check

Test for battery voltage at connector 1 terminal 1 of the junction block with the ignition switch in the START position.

Is battery voltage present?

Go to Step 14

Test for battery voltage at connector 1 terminal 3 of the junction block with the ignition switch in the START position.

Is battery voltage present?

Go to Step 12

Replace the ignition switch. Refer to Ignition Switch Replacement - On Vehicle in Steering Wheel and Column - Standard.

Is the repair complete?

Go to Starting System Check

Test for battery voltage at connector 7 terminal 1 of the junction block.

Is battery voltage present?

Go to Step 14

Replace the junction block.

Is the repair complete?

Test for battery voltage at connector 4 terminal 1 of the fuse box.

Repair the open in the WHT/GRN wire between the junction block connector 7 terminal 1 and the fuse box.

Is the repair complete?
