Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 318914  Size: SH
  1. Open the hood (2).

  2. Object Number: 318913  Size: MH
  3. Complete the following steps in order to remove the hood open assist rod (7) from the strut stud (1):
  4. 2.1. Pry the clip (6) out with a flat bladed tool.
    2.2. Pull the assist rod (7) from the strut stud (1).
    2.3. Remove the hood open assist rod (7).
  5. Remove the following components from the hood hinges (4):
  6. 3.1. The hood hinge bolts/screws (3)
    3.2. The hinge bracket nuts (1)
  7. Remove the hood (2) from the vehicle with the aid of a helper.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the hood (2) to the vehicle with the aid of a helper.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the following components to the hood hinges (4):
  4. 2.1. The hinge bracket nuts (1)

    Tighten
    Tighten the hood hinge bracket nuts (1) to 27 N·m (20 lb ft).

    2.2. The hood hinge bolts/screws (3)

    Tighten
    Tighten the hood hinge bolts/screws (3) to 27 N·m (20 lb ft).

  5. Install the hood open assist rod (7) to the strut stud (1).

  6. Object Number: 318914  Size: SH
  7. Close the hood (2) slowly.
  8. Inspect the clearance between the following components:
  9. • The hood (2)
    • The front fenders
    • For Pontiac vehicles only, the headlamp opening doors
  10. Inspect the alignment of the hood (3). Refer to Alignment Checking in Frame and Underbody.
  11. Adjust the hood as needed. Refer to Hood Adjustment .
