Headlamp Doors Inoperative - One Door Pontiac

Did you perform the Diagnostic System Check?

Turn the headlamps on.

Do both headlamp doors open?

--

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

Go to Step 3

  1. Disconnect the headlamp opening door actuator control module connector C1.
  2. Connect a test lamp between the headlamp opening door actuator control module connector C1 terminal E or B and ground.
  3. Turn the headlamps on.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

--

Go to Step 4

  1. Disconnect the headlamp opening door actuator control module connector C2.
  2. Disconnect C160 (LH) or C165 (RH).
  3. Inspect for a short to battery voltage in the following areas:
  4. • The left headlamp door motor up circuit and the left headlamp door motor down circuit
    • The right headlamp door motor up circuit and the right headlamp door motor down circuit
    • Refer to Circuit Testing in Wiring Systems.

Is a short to battery voltage present?

--

Go to Step 6

Go to Step 7

Inspect for a short to ground in the left headlamp door motor up circuit and the left headlamp door motor down circuit or the right headlamp door motor up circuit and the right headlamp door motor down circuit. Refer to Circuit Testing in Wiring Systems.

Is a short to ground present?

--

Go to Step 8

Go to Step 9

Repair a short to battery voltage. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you complete the repair?

--

Go to Step 14

Test for continuity in the following areas:

    • The left headlamp door motor up circuit and the left headlamp door motor down circuit
    • The right headlamp door motor up circuit and the right headlamp door motor down circuit
        Refer to Circuit Testing in Wiring Systems.

Is there continuity present?

--

Go to Step 10

Go to Step 11

Repair the short to ground. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you complete the repair?

Go to Step 14

Repair the open in circuit 840 or circuit 740. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you complete the repair?

  1. Reconnect the headlamp door actuator control module connectors C1 and C2.
  2. Connect a test lamp between the inoperative motor connector terminals A and B. Refer to Circuit Testing in Wiring Systems.
  3. Turn the headlamps on.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Repair a poor connection or an open. Refer to Wiring Repairs or Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Replace the inoperative headlamp door motor. Refer to Headlamp Motor/Actuator Replacement

Operate the system in order to verify the repair.
