Headlight Leveling Inoperative - One Actuator Europe

Did you perform the Diagnostic System Check?

  1. Turn on the headlamps.
  2. Turn the headlamp leveling switch to each of the four positions.

Do the headlamps change position?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

  1. Disconnect the inoperative headlamp leveling actuator connector C170 (at the back of the motor).
  2. Turn the headlamps on.
  3. Connect a test lamp between the signal circuit of the headlamp switch at the of the headlamp leveling actuator motor connector and ground. Refer to Circuit Testing in Wiring Systems.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Locate and repair the open in the signal circuit of the headlamp switch. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you complete the repair?

--

Go to Step 10

Connect a test lamp between terminal 1 and terminal 3 of the headlamp leveling actuator motor connector. Refer to Circuit Testing in Wiring Systems.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

--

Go to Step 7

Locate and repair the open in the ground circuit of the inoperative leveling actuator motor. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you complete the repair?

Go to Step 10

  1. Place the headlamp leveling switch in the 0 position.
  2. Connect a DMM between the inoperative headlamp leveling actuator motor connector terminal 2 and ground. Refer to Circuit Testing in Wiring Systems.

Does the voltmeter read less than the specified value?

4.5 V

Go to Step 9

Replace the headlamp leveling actuator motor. Refer to Headlamp Motor/Actuator Replacement .

Did you complete the replacement?

Locate and repair a poor connection or an open in the signal circuit of the headlamp leveling switch. Refer to Wiring Repairs or Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Operate the system in order to verify the repair.
