Was the interior lights dimming check performed?

  1. Release the parking brake.
  2. Add light source to the the daytime running lamps ambient light sensor.
  3. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
  4. Turn the headlamp switch to the PARK position.
  5. Turn the I/P lamp dimmer switch to the MAX position.
  6. Turn the I/P lamp dimmer switch past the MAX position to the first detent (2ND detent - dome lamps on).
  7. Disconnect the I/P lamp dimmer switch connector.

Did the VF display brighten (Odometer, PRNDL indicator, Radio and HVAC display [CJ2} )?

Replace the I/P lamp dimmer switch. Refer to Instrument Panel Multifunction Switch Assembly Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gauges and Console.

Is the repair complete?

Repair short to B+ in circuit 308.

  1. Turn the ignition switch on.
  2. Turn the headlamp switch to the PARK position.
  3. Turn the I/P lamp dimmer switch to the OFF position.
  4. Using DMM, measure the voltage by backprobing between the I/P lamp dimmer switch connector terminal B and ground.

Is the voltage measured within the specified range?

Less than 1V

  1. Turn the ignition switch off.
  2. Turn the headlamp switch to the OFF position.
  3. Disconnect the I/P dimmer switch electrical connector.
  4. Turn the ignition switch on.
  5. Turn the headlamp switch to the PARK position.
  6. Using a DMM, measure the voltage between the I/P lamp dimmer switch harness connector terminal B and ground.

Is the voltage measured within the specified range?

Less than 1V

Go to Step 4

Replace the I/P lamp dimmer switch. Refer to Instrument Panel Multifunction Switch Assembly Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gauges and Console.

  1. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
  2. Turn the headlamp switch to the PARK position.
  3. Turn the I/P lamp dimmer switch to the OFF position.
  4. Using J-39200, backprobe between the I/P lamp dimmer switch connector terminal F to ground.

Is the voltage within specified range?

8 -14V

Go to Step 6

  1. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
  2. Turn the headlamp switch to the OFF position.
  3. Disconnect the I/P lamp dimmer switch connector.
  4. Remove terminal F from the I/P lamp dimmer switch connector.
  5. Reconnect the I/P lamp dimmer switch.
  6. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
  7. Turn the headlamp switch to the PARK position.
  8. Turn the I/P lamp dimmer switch to the OFF position.
  9. Using J-39200, backprobe between the I/P lamp dimmer switch connector terminal F at the connector (not the wire).

Is the voltage within specified range?

8 -14V

Replace the I/P lamp dimmer switch. Refer to Instrument Panel Multifunction Switch Assembly Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gauges and Console for service procedure.

Repair the open in circuit 308 between the I/P lamp dimmer switch terminal F and S212.
