Was the Wiper/Washer System Check performed?

Go to Step 2

Go to Diagnostic System Check - Wiper/Washer

  1. Remove the wiper fuse 8E.
  2. Set the DMM to the amp scale and connect across the fuse terminals.
  3. Set the ignition switch to RUN.
  4. Set the wiper switch to LO.
  5. Observe the lowest current draw while the wipers are running on dry glass (the current draw will fluctuate).

Is the lowest current draw less than 3.5 amps?

3.5 amps

Go to Step 3

Replace the wiper motor. Refer to Windshield Wiper Motor Replacement

Is the replacement complete?

Go to Diagnostic System Check - Wiper/Washer

Is the lowest current draw more than 6.5 amps?

6.5 amps

Go to Step 7

Check for an intermittent poor connection or an open circuit in CKTs 91, 92, 95, 143, 195, and 1150.

Is a poor connection or an open circuit present?

Go to Step 6

Go to Step 9

Repair the poor connection or the open circuit.

Is the repair complete?

  1. Replace the wiper blade elements. Refer to Wiper Blade Element Replacement .
  2. Repeat the current draw test.

Is the lowest current draw more than 6.5 amps?

6.5 amps

Go to Step 8

  1. Disconnect the wiper transmission linkage from the wiper motor crank arm.
  2. Repeat the current draw test.

Is the lowest current draw more than 6.5 amps?

6.5 amps

Go to Step 9

Replace the wiper motor.

Is the replacement complete?

Replace or repair the binding wiper transmission as required. Refer to Windshield Wiper Transmission Replacement .
