The sliding window panel controls water entry at the seal. A properly adjusted window panel will fit snugly between the weatherstrip and the roof. Inspect for a proper fit by using the following procedure:

  1. Insert a piece of paper between the roof and the weatherstrip.
  2. Close the sunroof window.
  3. Pull out the piece of paper.
  4. You should feel some resistance when you pull the paper out from between the roof and the weatherstrip.

Allow only a minimal gap between the roof and the weatherstrip. This is essential in order to assure that the water going to the sunroof drain hoses is not excessive. Objectionable wind noise may result if the gap clearances are exceeded. Make sunroof window to roof adjustments by adjusting the height and centering the glass. Refer to Sunroof Window Height and Opening Fit Adjustment .

The drain trough in the sunroof module provides adequate drainage. The drain trough encircles the sliding window panel and leads to drain hoses. The drain hoses are located in each corner of the housing. A drain channel spans the rear of the sunroof module. The drain channel directs water into the trough. The front drain hoses are routed down the windshield pillars and out the center of each pillar between the upper and lower door hinges. The rear drain hoses are routed down the C-pillars into the rear compartment.

If a wet headliner or other water leaks occur, verify that the drainage system is not plugged or disconnected. This should be done before performing any adjustments to the sunroof. Inspect for a plugged or disconnected drainage system by using a pint container in order to pour water into the module housing drain trough. If the water flow is restricted, use compressed air in order to blow out any material plugging the drain system. Retest the system again.

In order to further check for disconnected drain hoses without removing the headliner, complete the following steps:

    • Remove the sunroof control switch
    • Remove the sunroof opening trim lace around the sunroof opening
    • Lower the headliner as required
