Removal Procedure

    Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System in SIR.
  3. Remove the defroster grille. Refer to Defroster Grille Replacement .
  4. Remove the end caps. Refer to Instrument Panel Outer Trim Cover Replacement .
  5. Remove the instrument panel compartment. Refer to Instrument Panel Compartment Replacement .
  6. Remove the left front and right sound insulators. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Panel Replacement - Left Side and Instrument Panel Insulator Panel Replacement - Right Side .
  7. Remove the passenger side SIR inflator module. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Replacement in SIR.
  8. Remove the steering wheel. Refer to Steering Wheel Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column-Tilt.
  9. Remove the multifunction switch. Refer to Multifunction Turn Signal Lever Replacement - On Vehicle in Steering Wheel and Column-Tilt.
  10. Remove the column covers. Refer to Steering Column Trim Cover Replacement - On Vehicle in Steering Wheel and Column-Tilt.
  11. Remove the steering column stalks.
  12. Remove the cluster trim plate. Refer to Instrument Cluster Trim Panel Replacement .
  13. Remove the accessory trim plate. Refer to Instrument Panel Accessory Trim Plate Replacement .
  14. Remove the instrument panel cluster. Refer to Instrument Cluster Replacement .
  15. Remove the HVAC controls. Refer to Control Assembly Replacement in HVAC Systems with A/C-Manual.
  16. Remove the radio. Refer to Radio Replacement .
  17. Remove the remote cassette player. Refer to Remote Tape Player Replacement in Entertainment.
  18. Remove the ignition switch. Refer to Instrument Panel Lamp Dimmer Replacement .
  19. Remove the upper pillar garnish molding. Refer to Upper Pillar Garnish Molding Replacement in Interior Trim.

  21. Remove the center console. Pull the console rearward in order to disengage the console from the instrument panel (1). Refer to Console Replacement .
  22. Remove the cigarette lighter. Refer to Cigar Lighter Housing Replacement .
  23. Remove the ashtray.
  24. Remove the screws (2,3,4) that connect the instrument panel (1) to the tie bar (6).
  25. Remove the instrument panel (1) from the tie bar (6).

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the instrument panel (1) to the tie bar (6).
  2. Install the screws (2,3,4) that connect the instrument panel (1) to the tie bar (6).
  3. Install the ash tray.
  4. Install the cigarette lighter. Refer to Cigar Lighter Housing Replacement .
  5. Install the center console. Refer to Console Replacement .
  6. Install the upper pillar garnish molding. Refer to Upper Pillar Garnish Molding Replacement in Interior Trim.
  7. Install the ignition switch. Refer to Ignition and Start Switch Replacement .
  8. Install the radio. Refer to Radio Replacement in Entertainment.
  9. Install the remote cassette player. Refer to Remote Tape Player Replacement in Entertainment.
  10. Install the HVAC controls. Refer to Control Assembly Replacement in HVAC Systems with A/C-Manual.
  11. Install the instrument panel cluster. Refer to Instrument Cluster Replacement .
  12. Install the cluster trim plate. Refer to Instrument Cluster Trim Panel Replacement .
  13. Install the accessory trim plate. Refer to Instrument Panel Accessory Trim Plate Replacement .
  14. Install the steering column stalks.
  15. Install the steering column covers. Refer to Steering Column Trim Cover Replacement - On Vehicle in Steering Wheel and Column-Tilt.
  16. Install the multifunction switch. Refer to Multifunction Turn Signal Lever Replacement - On Vehicle in Steering Wheel and Column-Tilt.
  17. Install the steering wheel. Refer to Steering Wheel Replacement .
  18. Install the passenger side SIR inflator module. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column-Tilt.
  19. Install the left and right sound insulators. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Panel Replacement - Left Side and Instrument Panel Insulator Panel Replacement - Right Side .
  20. Install the end cap. Refer to Instrument Panel Outer Trim Cover Replacement .
  21. Install the instrument panel compartment. Refer to Instrument Panel Compartment Replacement .
  22. Install the defroster grille. Refer to Defroster Grille Replacement .
  23. Enable the SIR system. Refer to Enabling the SIR System in SIR.
  24. Perform the theft deterrent relearn procedure. Refer to PASSLOCK Reprogramming Auto Learn in Theft Deterrent.
