Removal Procedure

  1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System in SIR.
  2. Remove the Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Replacement in SIR.

  3. Object Number: 627269  Size: SH
  4. Remove the steering wheel mass damper retaining screws.
  5. Remove the mass damper from the steering wheel.
  6. Remove the steering wheel retaining nut.
  7. Note the mark on the steering shaft and the steering wheel in order to ensure proper alignment during installation.

  8. Object Number: 255213  Size: SH
  9. Use the J 42578 and the J 1859-A in order to remove the steering wheel .
  10. Remove the J 42578 and the J 1859-A from the steering wheel.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 294367  Size: SH
  1. Route the wiring through the steering wheel.
  2. Align the mark on the steering wheel with the mark on the shaft.
  3. Install the steering wheel.
  4. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  5. Install the steering wheel retaining nut.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the steering wheel retaining nut to 41 N·m (30 lb ft).

  7. Install the mass damper.
  8. Install the mass damper retaining screw.
  9. Tighten
    Tighten the mass damper retaining screws to 3 N·m (27 lb in).

  10. Install the inflatable restraint steering wheel module. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Replacement in SIR.
  11. Enable the SIR system. Refer to Enabling the SIR System in SIR.
