Rear Bumper Fascia Replacement Oldsmobile

Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the cargo net and the retainers.
  2. Pull back the rear compartment trim at the tail lamps in order to expose the filler panel nut and inside fascia bolts.
  3. Remove the filler panel nut from inside the rear compartment.
  4. Remove the inside rear bumper fascia bolts from inside the rear compartment.
  5. Remove the bolts at the front support bracket (inside the wheel well).
  6. Remove the license plate lamp. Refer to Rear License Lamp Replacement in Lighting Systems.
  7. Remove the push-in retainers from the upper and lower edge of the rear bumper fascia.
  8. Remove the rear bumper fascia from the vehicle.

  10. Remove the screws from the rear support bracket (5).
  11. Remove the push-in retainer from the support bracket.
  12. Remove the rear support bracket from the rear bumper fascia.
  13. Lift up to remove the reinforcement bracket from the filler panel.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 277204  Size: SH
  1. Position the rear support bracket (5) to the rear bumper fascia (3).
  2. Install the push-in retainer to the rear support bracket.
  3. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  4. Install the rear support bracket screws.
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the rear support bracket screws to 3 N·m (27 lb in).

  6. Install the reinforcement bracket to the filler panel.
  7. Position the rear bumper fascia to the vehicle.
  8. Install the push-in retainers to the top of the rear fascia.
  9. Install the rear support bracket bolts.
  10. Tighten
    Tighten the rear support bracket bolts to 3 N·m (27 lb in).

  11. Install the filler panel nut inside the rear compartment.
  12. Tighten
    Tighten the filler panel nut to 3 N·m (27 lb in).

  13. Install the inside fascia bolts inside the rear compartment.
  14. Tighten
    Tighten the inside rear bumper fascia bolts to 3 N·m (27 lb in).

  15. Install the license plate lamp. Refer to Rear License Lamp Replacement in Lighting Systems.
  16. Install the push-in retainers at the bottom of the rear bumper fascia.
  17. Reposition the rear compartment trim to the original position.
  18. Install the cargo net and retainers.

Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 330843  Size: SH
  1. Remove the tail lamps. Refer to Tail Lamp Assembly and /or Backup, Sidemarker, Stop, Turn Signal Bulb Replacement in Lighting Systems.
  2. Remove the license plate lamp. Refer to Rear License Lamp Replacement in Lighting Systems.
  3. Remove the screws and the push-in retainer at the front support bracket.

  4. Object Number: 330835  Size: SH
  5. Remove the push-in retainers from the upper and lower edge of the rear bumper fascia.
  6. Disconnect the electrical connector to the backup lamps.
  7. Remove the rear bumper fascia from the vehicle.
  8. Remove the backup lamps. Refer to Backup Lamp Replacement .

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the backup lamps. Refer to Backup Lamp Replacement .
  2. Position the rear bumper fascia to the vehicle.
  3. Install the push-in retainers to the top of the rear fascia.
  4. Connect the electrical connector to the backup lamps.

  6. Install the front support bracket screws.
  7. Tighten
    Tighten the front support bracket screws to 6 N·m (53 lb in).

  8. Install the push-in retainer to the front support bracket.

  10. Install the push-in retainers to the lower edge of the rear bumper fascia.
  11. Install the tail lamps. Refer to Tail Lamp Assembly and /or Backup, Sidemarker, Stop, Turn Signal Bulb Replacement in Lighting Systems.
  12. Install the license plate lamp. Refer to Rear License Lamp Replacement in Lighting Systems.
