Did you perform the Radio/Audio System Diagnostic System Check?

  1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  2. Turn ON the radio.
  3. Adjust the radio balance and fade to the suspect speaker.

Does the speaker operate properly?

--

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

Is the vehicle equipped with a radio amplifier?

--

Go to Step 4

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the amplifier connector. Refer to Radio Speaker Amplifier Replacement for service procedure.
  3. Using two fused jumpers, connect the suspect amplifier speaker inputs to the corresponding amplifier speaker outputs in order to bypass the radio amplifier.
  4. Turn ON the radio.

Does the speaker operate properly?

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the radio. Refer to Radio Replacement for service procedure.
  3. Momentarily touch a 1.5 volt battery between the appropriate speaker circuits.

Does the speaker emit an audible pop?

--

Go to Step 9

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Test the circuits of the radio amplifier connector to the appropriate speaker for a short to ground or a short to voltage.

Did you find and correct the condition?

--

Go to Step 15

  1. Disconnect the radio. Refer to Radio Replacement for service procedure.
  2. Using two fused jumpers, connect the suspect amplifier speaker inputs to the corresponding amplifier speaker outputs in order to bypass the radio amplifier.
  3. Momentarily touch a 1.5 volt battery between the appropriate speaker circuits.

Does the speaker emit an audible pop?

Test the circuits of the appropriate speaker for an open or high resistance. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the radio. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the amplifier. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.
