Did you perform the Radio/Audio System Diagnostic System Check?

  1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  2. Turn ON the radio.
  3. Insert the tape or CD from the J 39916-A .

Can audio be heard from all speakers?

--

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

Is the vehicle equipped with a radio amplifier?

--

Go to Step 4

  1. Disconnect the radio amplifier connector. Refer to Radio Speaker Amplifier Replacement for service procedure.
  2. Test the Battery Positive Voltage circuit of the amplifier for an open or short to ground.
  3. Test the Ground circuits of the amplifier for an open.
  4. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the radio. Refer to Radio Replacement for service procedure.
  3. Test all speaker output circuits of the radio for a short to ground or a short to voltage. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Test the Antenna Relay Coil Supply circuit between the radio and amplifier for an open or a short to ground. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the radio.
  3. Test all speaker output circuits from the radio connector to the amplifier connector for a short to ground or a short to voltage.

  1. Using two fused jumpers, connect the left rear amplifier speaker inputs to the corresponding amplifier speaker outputs.
  2. Turn ON the radio.

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the radio. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Replace the radio. Refer to Radio Replacement and Radio Setup for service procedure.
