Diagnostic Fault Information

Important: Always perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle. Refer to Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle , prior to using this diagnostic procedure.

Circuit/System Description

The Bluetooth Module is a cellular device that is powered by a fused, battery positive, voltage circuit and allows a cordless link between a cellular telephone and the Bluetooth car kit. The Bluetooth Module is not connected to the GMLAN system. It communicates with the cellular telephone via low-power radio waves. Due to the low power of the signal, approximately 1 milliwatt, a cellular telephone must be within 10 meters (32 feet) of the vehicle's Blue Tooth Module to identify the Bluetooth Module.. When a paired cellular telephone and the Bluetooth car kit come within range of one another and the ignition is turned to the ON position and/or the bluetooth button is pressed, an electronic conversation automatically takes place and the devices form a personal-area network (PAN), or piconet, in the vehicle.

Circuit/System Verification

Important: Perform this diagnostic if the paired cellular telephone and the Bluetooth Module cannot be connected.

Ignition ON, get in the vehicle with the paired cellular telephone and activate Bluetooth function on the cellular telephone and press the Bluetooth button on the steering wheel. Verify that the paired cellular telephone is not connected to the Bluetooth car kit.

Circuit/System Testing

  1. Drive the vehicle to a location where there is minimal traffic. Make sure there are no other paired cellular telephones in the vehicle or in the 10 meter (32 feet) vicinity of the vehicle.
  2. Pair and connect a cellular telephone that has previously worked in a Bluetooth car kit. Refer to Cellular Telephone Description and Operation .
  3. If pairing and connection takes place, Refer to the cellular telephone's owner manual to allow authorised automatic connection.
If pairing is unsuccessful, refer to Cellular Telephone Will Not Pair Up With Bluetooth Car Kit
