Diagnostic Fault Information

Important: Always perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle. Refer to Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle in Vehicle Diagnostic Information, prior to using this diagnostic procedure.

Circuit/System Description

The Bluetooth Module is a cellular device that is powered by a fused, battery positive, voltage circuit and allows a cordless link between a cellular telephone and the Bluetooth car kit. The Bluetooth Module is not connected to the GMLAN system. It communicates with the cellular telephone via low-power radio waves. Due to the low power of the signal, approximately 1 milliwatt, a cellular telephone must be within 10 meters (32 feet) of the vehicle's Blue Tooth Module to identify the Bluetooth Module so that pairing between the cellular telephone and the Bluetooth car kit can take place.

Circuit/System Verification

Important: Perform this diagnostic if the cellular telephone and the Bluetooth Module cannot be paired.

Ignition ON, get in the vehicle with the cellular telephone and activate Bluetooth function on the cellular telephone and search for Bluetooth devices. Verify that the cellular telephone cannot pick up a device labelled Vehicle BT.

Circuit/System Testing

  1. Drive the vehicle to a location where there is minimal traffic. Make sure there are no other paired cellular telephones in the vehicle or in the 10 meter (32 feet) vicinity of the vehicle.
  2. Ignition ON, activate Bluetooth function on a cellular telephone, with a known to be operating Bluetooth function, and search for Bluetooth devices.
  3. If no Bluetooth devices are found, continue.
  4. Press the Bluetooth button 4 times and listen for a series of chimes through the speakers.
  5. If a series of chimes was heard through the speakers, replace the Bluetooth module.
  6. Connect a DMM between the supply voltage circuit terminals and the ground circuit terminals.
  7. If 12 volts is present, replace the Bluetooth module.
