Coil Spring Replacement HSV Except Clubsport

Caution: Refer to Safety Glasses Caution in the Preface section.

Caution: Refer to Vehicle Lifting Caution in the Preface section.

1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
2. Remove the rear wheels. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation .
3. Remove the ESC strut assembly. Refer to Strut Assembly Replacement .
4. Remove the strut assembly support mount. Refer to Rear Suspension Strut Mount Replacement .



5. Remove the spring insulator (2).
6. Note the orientation and remove the lower washer (1).
7. Remove the dust shield (3).
8. Remove the compression bumper washer (4)
9. Remove the compression bumper (5).
10. Remove the tenon washer (6)



11. release and remove the ESC strut and coil assembly (2) from the approved spring compressor (1).



12. Remove the coil spring (1) from the ESC strut (2).

Inspect all parts for wear and damage.

Notice: Refer to General Repair Instructions in the Preface section.




1. Install the coil spring (1) to the ESC strut (2).



2. Compress the coil spring (2) using the approved spring compressor (1).



3. Install the tenon washer (6).
4. Install the compression bumper washer (5) to the compression bumper (4)
5. Install the compression bumper (4)
6. Install the dust shield (3).
7. Note the orientation and install the lower washer (1).
8. Install the spring insulator (2).
9. Install the strut assembly support mount. Refer to Rear Suspension Strut Mount Replacement .
10. Install the ESC strut assembly. Refer to Strut Assembly Replacement .
11. Install the rear wheels. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation .
12. Remove the safety stands.
13. Lower the vehicle to the ground.

4. Remove the strut assembly support mount. Refer to Rear Suspension Strut Mount Replacement .



5. Remove the spring insulator (2).
6. Note the orientation and remove the lower washer (1).
7. Remove the dust shield (3).
8. Remove the compression bumper (4).



9. Release and remove the spring compressor (1) from the coil spring (2).



10. Remove the coil spring (1) from the shock absorber (2).
11. Inspect parts for wear and damage.

1. Install the coil spring (1) to the shock absorber (2).



2. Compress the coil spring (2) using the spring compressor (1).



3. Install the compression bumper (4).
4. Install the dust shield (3).
5. Note the orientation and install the lower washer (1).
6. Install the spring insulator (2).
7. Install the rear strut assembly support mount. Refer to Rear Suspension Strut Mount Replacement .
8. Install the rear strut assembly. Refer to Strut Assembly Replacement .
9. Install the rear wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation .
10. Remove the safety stands.
11. Lower the vehicle to the ground.
