Removal Procedure

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection  in Engine Electrical.
  2. Disable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling and SIR Disabling and Enabling in SIR.
  3. Remove the upper garnish moldings from the windshield pillar. Refer to Windshield Pillar Garnish Molding Replacement in Stationary Windows.
  4. Remove the upper trim panel from the instrument panel (I/P). Refer to Instrument Panel Upper Trim Panel Replacement .
  5. Remove the front floor console, if equipped. Refer to Front Floor Console Replacement .
  6. Remove the left and the right I/P insulators. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Panel Replacement - Right Side and to Instrument Panel Insulator Panel Replacement - Left Side .
  7. Remove the steering column filler. Refer to Steering Column Opening Filler Replacement .
  8. Remove the knee bolster. Refer to Knee Bolster Replacement .
  9. Remove the steering column. Refer to Steering Column Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column.
  10. Remove the hood latch release handle. Refer to Hood Primary Latch Release Cable Handle Replacement in Body Front End.
  11. Remove the bolts from the data link connector, and move the DLC harness to one side.
  12. Remove the front carpet retainers. Refer to Front Carpet Retainer Replacement in Interior Trim.
  13. Remove the accessory trim plate from the I/P. Refer to Instrument Panel Accessory Trim Plate Replacement .
  14. Remove the cluster trim plate from the I/P. Refer to Instrument Panel Cluster Trim Plate Bezel Replacement .
  15. Remove the inside air temperature sensor, if equipped. Refer to Inside Air Temperature Sensor Replacement .
  16. Remove the headlamp switch. Refer to Headlamp Switch Replacement in Lighting Systems.
  17. Remove the I/P cluster. Refer to Instrument Cluster Replacement .
  18. Remove the radio. Refer to Radio Replacement in Entertainment.
  19. Remove the HVAC control assembly. Refer to Heater and Air Conditioning Control Replacement in HVAC Systems - Manual or to HVAC Control Module Replacement in HVAC Systems - Automatic.
  20. Remove the I/P compartment. Refer to Instrument Panel Compartment Replacement .

  22. Release the I/P compartment lamp by depressing the retainers.
  23. Disconnect the electrical connector and remove the I/P compartment lamp.
  24. Disconnect the fuse block from the cross vehicle beam by releasing the locking tab. Reposition the fuse block.

  26. Remove the bolts from the right end of the I/P.

  27. Object Number: 311645  Size: SH
  28. Remove the center and the lower bolts from the I/P.

  29. Object Number: 311642  Size: SH
  30. Remove the bolt from the left end of the I/P.

  31. Object Number: 326084  Size: SH
  32. Remove the bolts from the upper I/P.
  33. Reposition the wiring harness from the I/P assembly.
  34. Remove the I/P assembly from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure

  1. Position the I/P assembly to the vehicle.
  2. Position the wiring harness to the I/P assembly.

  3. Object Number: 326084  Size: SH

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  4. Install the bolts to the upper I/P trim pad.
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 5 N·m (44 lb in).

  6. Install the bolts to the left end of the I/P trim pad.
  7. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 20 N·m (15 lb ft).

  8. Install the bolts to the center and to the lower I/P assembly.
  9. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 5 N·m (44 lb in).

  10. Install the bolts to the right end of the I/P assembly.
  11. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 20 N·m (15 lb ft).

  12. Align the fuse block to the cross vehicle beam and install the fuse block securing the locking tab.

  14. Connect the electrical connector to the I/P assembly compartment lamp.
  15. Install the compartment lamp into the I/P.
  16. Install the I/P compartment. Refer to Instrument Panel Compartment Replacement .
  17. Install the HVAC control assembly. Refer to Heater and Air Conditioning Control Replacement in HVAC Systems - Manual or to HVAC Control Module Replacement in HVAC Systems - Automatic.
  18. Install the radio. Refer to Radio Replacement in Entertainment.
  19. Install the I/P cluster. Refer to Instrument Cluster Replacement .
  20. Install the headlamp switch. Refer to Headlamp Switch Replacement in Lighting Systems.
  21. Install the inside air temperature sensor, if equipped. Refer to Inside Air Temperature Sensor Replacement in HVAC Systems - Automatic.
  22. Install the I/P cluster trim plate. Refer to Instrument Panel Cluster Trim Plate Bezel Replacement .
  23. Install the I/P accessory trim plate. Refer to Instrument Panel Accessory Trim Plate Replacement .
  24. Install the front carpet retainers. Refer to Front Carpet Retainer Replacement in Interior Trim.
  25. Connect the data link connector (DLC) to the I/P and install the bolts .
  26. Tighten
    Tighten the screws to 2 N·m (18 lb in).

  27. Install the hood latch release handle. Refer to Hood Primary Latch Release Cable Handle Replacement in Body Front End.
  28. Install the steering column. Refer to Steering Column Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column.
  29. Install the knee bolster to the I/P. Refer to Knee Bolster Replacement .
  30. Install the steering column filler. Refer to Steering Column Opening Filler Replacement .
  31. Install the left and the right I/P insulators. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Panel Replacement - Right Side and to Instrument Panel Insulator Panel Replacement - Left Side .
  32. Install the front floor console, if equipped. Refer to Front Floor Console Replacement .
  33. Install the upper trim panel. Refer to Instrument Panel Upper Trim Panel Replacement .
  34. Install the upper garnish moldings to the windshield pillar. Refer to Windshield Pillar Garnish Molding Replacement in Stationary Windows.
  35. Enable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling and SIR Disabling and Enabling in SIR.
  36. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in Engine Electrical.
