J 38778 Door Trim Pad and Garnish Clip Remover

Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the door trim panel. Refer to Front Side Door Trim Panel Replacement .
  2. Remove the trim panel bracket fasteners (2).
  3. Remove the trim panel bracket (1).

  4. Object Number: 259086  Size: SH
  5. Remove the door control module. Refer to Door Control Module Replacement - Front .
  6. Use the J 38778 in order to remove the 2 push-in retainers at the outer top edges of the water deflector.
  7. Important: Do not damage the sealer (2).

  8. Carefully pull the water deflector (1) away from the door inner panel.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the water deflector (1) over the inside door handle.
  2. Notice: Proper sealing is necessary in order to prevent water entry into the door and possible damage to inner door components.

  3. Align the water deflector with the top of the inner door panel.
  4. Install the push-in retainers at the upper outer edges of the water deflector.
  5. Carefully guide the wire harness through the openings in the water deflector.
  6. Insert the extruded pockets as needed. Remove any wrinkles.
  7. Secure the bottom center.
  8. Work forward and up in order to secure the front side.
  9. Return to the bottom center. Work the seal rearward and up.
  10. Install the door module. Refer to Door Control Module Replacement - Front .

  11. Object Number: 259165  Size: SH
  12. Install the trim panel bracket (1).
  13. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  14. Install the fasteners (2).
  15. Tighten
    Tighten the fasteners (2) to 9 N·m (80 lb in).

  16. Install the door trim panel. Refer to Front Side Door Trim Panel Replacement .
