Removal Procedure

    Important: After a non-deployment accident, visually inspect the instrument panel assembly for damage or deformation. Visual damage indicates that there is structural damage. Replace the IP assembly if structural damage is indicated.

  1. Remove the IP trim pad. Refer to Instrument Panel Upper Trim Pad Replacement .
  2. Remove the steering column. Refer to Steering Column Replacement .
  3. Remove the inflatable restraint IP module. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Instrument Panel Module Replacement .
  4. Remove the retaining studs from the steering column opening.

  6. Remove the carrier to cowl fasteners (1).

  7. Object Number: 516081  Size: SH
  8. Remove the IP carrier to A-pillar fasteners (1).
  9. Pull the IP carrier rearward slightly.

  10. Object Number: 262579  Size: SH
  11. Disconnect IP to body connector (1).

  12. Object Number: 262583  Size: SH
  13. Disconnect the passenger side body harness electrical connectors (1).

  14. Object Number: 262580  Size: SH
  15. Disconnect the left side IP to body electrical connectors (1, 2, 3).
  16. Remove the carrier.
  17. Remove the right side window defroster duct fasteners.
  18. Remove the defroster duct.
  19. Remove the left side window defroster duct fasteners.
  20. Remove the defroster duct.

  21. Disconnect the electrical connectors from the heater and A/C programmer.
  22. Remove the heater and A/C programmer bracket.
  23. Remove the wiring harness from the bracket retainer.
  24. Disconnect the electrical connectors from the fuse box.
  25. Remove the fasteners retaining the fuse box.
  26. Remove the fuse box.

  27. Remove the left side electrical connectors from the bracket.
  28. Remove the right side electrical connectors from the bracket.
  29. Remove the wiring harness from the carrier.

  31. Remove the IP outer bracket fasteners (5).
  32. Remove the IP outer brackets (1) from the carrier.

  33. Remove the IP inner bracket fasteners (6).
  34. Remove the IP inner brackets (2) from the carrier.

  35. Remove the radio bracket fasteners (4).
  36. Remove the radio bracket from the carrier (3).

  37. Remove the slip bracket fasteners (1).
  38. Remove the slip brackets (2) from the carrier.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 516074  Size: SH
  1. Install the slip brackets (2) to the carrier.
  2. Loosely install the slip bracket fasteners (1).

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the radio bracket (3) to the carrier.
  4. Install the radio bracket fasteners (4).

    Tighten
    Tighten the fasteners to 2 N·m (18 lb in).

  5. Install the IP inner brackets (2) to the carrier.
  6. Install the IP inner bracket fasteners (6).

    Tighten
    Tighten the fasteners to 2 N·m (18 lb in).

  7. Install the IP outer brackets (1) to the carrier.
  8. Install the IP outer bracket fasteners (5).

    Tighten
    Tighten the fasteners to 2 N·m (18 lb in).

  9. Install the wiring harness to the carrier.
  10. Install the right side electrical connectors to the bracket.
  11. Install the left side electrical connectors to the bracket.
  12. Install the fuse box.
  13. Install the fasteners retaining the fuse box.

  14. Connect the electrical connectors to the fuse box.
  15. Install the wiring harness to the bracket retainer.

  17. Install the heater and A/C programmer bracket.
  18. Connect the electrical connectors to the heater and A/C programmer.
  19. Install the left side window defroster duct.
  20. Install the left side window defroster duct fasteners.

  21. Install the right side window defroster duct.
  22. Install the right side window defroster duct fasteners.

  23. Install the carrier partway.

  25. Connect the left side IP to body electrical connectors (1, 2, 3).

  26. Object Number: 262583  Size: SH
  27. Connect the passenger side body harness electrical connectors (1).

  28. Object Number: 262579  Size: SH
  29. Connect IP to body connector (1).
  30. Align the carrier to the brackets.

  31. Object Number: 516081  Size: SH
  32. Install the carrier to A-pillar fasteners (1).
  33. Tighten
    Tighten the fasteners to 24 N·m (18 lb ft).


    Object Number: 466067  Size: SH
  34. Install the carrier to cowl fasteners (1).
  35. Tighten
    Tighten the fasteners to 24 N·m (18 lb ft).


    Object Number: 516078  Size: MH
  36. Tighten the previously installed fasteners (1) to the slip brackets.
  37. Tighten
    Tighten the fasteners to 24 N·m (18 lb ft).

  38. Install the retaining studs to the steering column opening.
  39. Install the inflatable restraint IP module. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Instrument Panel Module Replacement .
  40. Install the steering column. Refer to Steering Column Replacement .
  41. Install the IP trim pad. Refer to Instrument Panel Upper Trim Pad Replacement .
