Water Pump Replacement Vin K

Removal Procedure

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in Engine Electrical.
  2. Drain the coolant. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling .
  3. Remove the drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement in Engine Mechanical.

  4. Object Number: 46174  Size: SH
  5. Remove the water pump pulley bolts.
  6. Remove the water pump pulley.

  7. Object Number: 46181  Size: SH
  8. Remove the water pump mounting bolts (1,2).

  9. Object Number: 46178  Size: SH
  10. Remove the water pump.
  11. Clean the gasket mating surfaces.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 46178  Size: SH
  1. Using a new gasket, install the water pump on the engine.

  2. Object Number: 46181  Size: SH

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the water pump bolts (1,2).
  4. Tighten

        • Tighten the short bolts (1) to 15 N·m (11 lb ft).
        • Tighten the long bolts (2) to 30 N·m (22 lb ft).

  5. Install the water pump pulley and bolts.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 13 N·m (115 lb in).

  7. Install the drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement in Engine Mechanical.
  8. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in Engine Electrical.
  9. Fill the coolant. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling .
  10. Inspect for coolant leaks. Refer to Cooling System Leak Testing .
