Removal Procedure

    Caution: Refer to SIR Caution in the Preface section.

  1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling .
  2. Place the front wheels in the straight ahead position.

  3. Object Number: 820027  Size: SH
  4. Remove the bolts from the steering wheel module (1).

  5. Object Number: 820026  Size: SH
  6. Release the connector position assurances (3) from the inflator module.
  7. Disconnect the steering wheel module connectors (2).
  8. Remove the steering wheel module (1).
  9. Fully deploy the module before disposal. If the module was replaced under warranty, fully deploy and dispose of the module after the required retention period. Refer to Inflator Module Handling and Scrapping .

Installation Procedure

    Caution: Refer to SIR Inflator Module Handling and Storage Caution in the Preface section.


    Object Number: 820026  Size: SH
  1. Connect the inflator module electrical connectors (2).
  2. Connect the connector position assurances (3) to the inflator module.
  3. Install the steering wheel module (1).

  4. Object Number: 820027  Size: SH

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  5. Install the bolts to the steering wheel module (1).
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 8.8 N·m (78 lb in).

  7. Enable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling .
