Unable To Remove The Ignition Key keywords automatic bind cable lock park shifter stuck switch transmission

This PI SUPERSEDES PIP3932 to include 2006-2007 model years. Please discard PIP3932.

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

The customer may be unable to remove the ignition key due to a sticky Park Lock Cable.

The cable is designed to prevent the key from being removed unless the car is in Park. If the cable sticks, the key cannot rotate to the lock position, and the key cannot be removed. To observe the condition pull the inner cable against the spring tension and verify if it intermittently sticks and does not return.

Replace the Park Lock Cable. Service part number is 88970997 and the labor operation is K5165. The service procedure is SI doc id 890147.

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
