Circuit Description

If a malfunction in the speed sensor signal circuit or the yaw rate sensor circuit occurs, the 4WD control module will output this DTC.

DTC Descriptor

This diagnostic procedure supports the following DTC:

DTC C1296 ABS Malfunction

Conditions for Running the DTC

This DTC shall run when the ignition is On.

Conditions for Setting the DTC

When one of the following conditions is met:

    • Wheel speed sensor malfunction is received from skid control module.
    • Deceleration sensor malfunction is received from the skid control module.

Action Taken When the DTC Sets

The 4WD control module will prohibit operations by the fail safe function.

Conditions for Clearing the DTC

The DTC will clear when conditions for setting the DTC have been repaired.

Did you perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle?

  1. Turn the ignition Off.
  2. Install a scan tool.
  3. Turn the ignition On, with the engine Off.
  4. Using scan tool, clear any DTCs.
  5. Start the engine.
  6. Drive the vehicle, accelerate to a speed of 20 km/h (12 mph) or more and check if the speed sensor DTC is set.

Is any DTC set?

Go to Step 3

  1. Turn OFF ignition.
  2. Replace the 4WD control module with a known good one.
  3. Turn ignition On, engine Off.
  4. Using scan tool, check if DTC resets.

Does DTC reset?

Go to Step 4

Go to Symptoms - Antilock Brake System

Replace 4WD control module.

Did you complete the replacement?

Go to Step 5

  1. Use the scan tool in order to clear the DTC.
  2. Operate the vehicle within the Conditions for Running the DTC, as specified in the supporting text.
