Condition

Some customers may comment that road noise can be heard coming from the area behind the front seats.

Cause

This condition may be caused by an open sheet metal seam in the metal support panel between the frame rail and the rocker panel.

Correction

  1. Raise the vehicle on a hoist. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in the General Information Sub-section of the Service Manual.
  2. Locate the support panel between the underbody frame rail and the rocker panel. It is in the middle of the underbody of the vehicle just behind the front doors. The support panels on both sides of the vehicle must be sealed.
  3. Clean both the front and back sides of the support panel as required.
