Valve Rocker Arm Cover Installation Left Side

    Notice: Install the valve rocker cover bolts finger tight before tightening the bolts to specification or damage to the valve rocker cover may occur.

  1. Install a new gasket and new bolt grommets to the valve rocker cover. Ensure that the gasket is seated properly in the valve rocker cover groove. Ensure that the bolt grommets are fully seated in the bolt holes.
  2. Apply sealer in the notch on the cover. Use GM P/N 12346141, (Canadian P/N 10953433) or its equivalent.
  3. Install the valve rocker cover gasket.
  4. Install the valve rocker cover.
  5. Install the valve rocker cover bolts.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  7. Install the thermostat bypass pipe.
  8. Install the thermostat bypass pipe retaining bolt, nut, and screw.
  9. Tighten

        • Tighten the screw to 12 N·m (106 lb in).
        • Tighten the bolt to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).
        • Tighten the nut to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).
  10. Install the thermostat bypass pipe hose clamp.

  3. Install the valve rocker cover gasket.
  4. Install the valve rocker cover.
  5. Install the valve rocker cover bolts.
  6. Tighten

  7. Install the generator bracket assembly.
  8. Install the generator bracket bolts.
