For 1990-2009 cars only
- Grasp the bottom section of the link assembly (507) midway between the sprockets. Push toward the top section and remove all of the slack.
- Using a pencil or other marker, place a mark on the case (15) even with the bottom of the chain.
- Push the bottom section of the link assembly (507) down and away from the top section.
- Place a second mark on the case (15) even with the bottom of the chain.
- Measure the distance between the two marks.
- If the measured distance exceeds 22.2 mm (7/8 in), replace the link assembly.
- Grasp the bottom section of the link assembly (507) midway between the sprockets. Push toward the top section and remove all of the slack.
- Using a pencil or other marker, place a mark on the case (15) even with the bottom of the chain.
- Push the bottom section of the link assembly (507) down and away from the top section.
- Place a second mark on the case even with the bottom of the chain.
- Measure the distance between the two marks.
- If the measured distance exceeds 22.2 mm (7/8 in), replace the link assembly.
