Preliminary Procedures

  1. Remove the tire and wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation.
  2. Remove the wheel drive shaft retaining nut. Refer to Wheel Drive Shaft Replacement.
  3. Without disconnecting the hydraulic brake hose from the caliper, remove and support the brake caliper with bracket as an assembly and remove the rear brake rotor. Refer to Rear Brake Rotor Replacement.

Wheel Drive Shaft Retaining Nut

Tip
Remove the wheel drive shaft retaining nut. Refer to Wheel Drive Shaft Replacement.

Wheel Bearing/Hub Assembly Mounting Bolt (Qty: 3)

Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.

Tighten
115 N·m (85 lb ft)

Wheel Bearing/Hub Assembly

Tip

    • Note the orientation of wheel speed sensor pigtail, if equipped, during removal to aid in installation.
    • Disconnect the wheel speed sensor electrical connector, if equipped.
    • Install the J 42129 remover or equivalent, to the wheel bearing/hub assembly and secure with lug nuts.
    • Using the J 42129 remover or equivalent, begin to disengage the wheel drive shaft from the wheel bearing/hub assembly.
    • Ensure the backing plate is positioned correctly during installation.
