Removal Procedure

    Object Number: 1592538 Size: SH
  1. Open the hood.
  2. Remove the connector position assurance (CPA) retainer.
  3. Disconnect the heated oxygen sensor (HO2S) electrical connector (3).
  4. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .

    Important: The HO2S uses a permanently attached pigtail and connector. This pigtail should not be removed from the sensor. Damage or removal of the pigtail or connector will affect proper operation of the sensor.

  5. Remove the HO2S (2). Refer to Heated Oxygen Sensor 1 Replacement .

  6. Remove the catalytic converter to muffler nuts.

    7. Object Number: 1593751 Size: SH
  7. Have an assistant support the muffler assembly.
  8. Separate the muffler insulators from the hangers.
  9. With the aid of an assistant, remove the muffler assembly.

Installation Procedure

    Object Number: 1593751 Size: SH
  1. With the aid of an assistant, position the muffler assembly.
  2. Install the muffler insulators onto the hangers.

    3. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.


    Object Number: 1593749 Size: SH
  3. Install the catalytic converter to muffler nuts.

    4. Tighten
    Tighten the nuts to 17 N·m (13 lb ft).

  4. Install the HO2S (2). Refer to Heated Oxygen Sensor 1 Replacement .
  5. Lower the vehicle.

    6. Object Number: 1592538 Size: SH
  6. Connect the HO2S electrical connector (3).
  7. Install the CPA retainer.
  8. Close the hood.
