Removal Procedure

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
  2. Remove the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation .
  3. Remove the brake drum. Refer to Brake Drum Replacement .

  4. Object Number: 891442  Size: SH
  5. Remove the brake shoes. Refer to Brake Shoe Replacement
  6. Remove the universal spring (1) from the brake backing plate.
  7. Remove the wheel cylinder. Refer to Wheel Cylinder Replacement .

  8. Object Number: 890720  Size: SH
  9. Release the rear park brake cable end fitting (1) from the drum brake backing plate.

  10. Object Number: 900071  Size: SH
  11. Remove the wheel bearing/hub assembly. Refer to Rear Wheel Bearing and Hub Replacement .
  12. Remove the brake backing plate.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 900071  Size: SH
  1. Install the brake backing plate.
  2. Install the wheel bearing/hub assembly. Refer to Rear Wheel Bearing and Hub Replacement .

  3. Object Number: 890720  Size: SH
  4. Secure the rear park brake cable end fitting (1) to the brake backing plate.

  5. Object Number: 891442  Size: SH
  6. Install the wheel cylinder. Refer to Wheel Cylinder Replacement .
  7. Install the universal spring (1) to the backing plate.
  8. Install the brake shoes. Refer to Brake Shoe Replacement .
  9. Adjust the drum brakes. Refer to Drum Brake Adjustment .
  10. Install the brake drum. Refer to Brake Drum Replacement .
  11. Bleed the hydraulic brake system. Refer to Hydraulic Brake System Bleeding .
  12. Install the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation .
  13. Lower the vehicle.
