J 44887 Oil Filter Wrench

  1. Use J 44887 to remove the oil filter cap. Remove the oil pan drain plug and allow the oil to drain out.
  2. Remove the oil filter from the cap and discard.
  3. Clean the oil filter housing in the engine block.
  4. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  5. Install the oil pan drain plug.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the oil pan drain plug to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

  7. Remove the water pump drain plug from the water pump and allow the coolant to drain from the water jacket.
  8. Apply sealant GM P/N 12346004 (Canadian P/N 10953480) or equivalent to the water pump drain plug.
  9. Install the water pump drain plug.
  10. Tighten
    Tighten the water pump drain plug to 20 N·m (15 lb ft).

  11. If cleaning or repairing the engine block, it is not necessary to reinstall the plugs.
