The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Condition/Concern:

Repeat failure of the thrust bearing assembly (internal gear/parking gear #695) when servicing the transmission or transfer case.

Recommendation/Instructions:

During transfer case installation, bearing #695 is subject to slipping out of position. When this happens, there will not be any transmission/transfer case endplay and the bearing will fail in a very short period of time.

A design change to the bearing (#695), sun gear shaft (689), and the parking gear (#696) was made to improve retention of the bearing during assembly. These 3 parts must be used together as a kit (P/N 24235426). Do not mix old design parts with new design parts as improper endplay will result.

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
