1. Door Ajar Indicator Always Illuminated.

2. Door Ajar Indicator Inoperative.

Circuit/System Description

The body control module (BCM) receives an input from all four door ajar switches, driver, passenger, left rear, and right rear door ajar switches. The door ajar switches are normally open when the doors are fully closed. When a door is opened, the door ajar switch contacts close providing a path to ground. The driver information center (DIC) on the instrument panel cluster (IPC), illuminates the appropriate door ajar message when the one of the doors are open. If this message is displayed and the vehicle speed is greater than 8 km/h (5 mph), a chime will sound.

Circuit/System Verification

  1. Ignition ON, observe the scan tool LF Door Ajar Switch and RF Door Ajar Switch parameters while opening and closing the driver and passenger doors. The parameter should change between Door Closed and Ajar.
  2. If the value does not change, refer to Front Door Ajar Malfunction.

Important: If equipped, switch the power sliding doors to the manual mode.

  3. Observe the scan tool Left Rear Door Ajar Sw and Right Rear Door Ajar Sw parameters while opening and closing each sliding door. The parameter should change between Closed and Ajar.
  4. If the value does not change, refer to Sliding Door Ajar Malfunction.

Important: If equipped, switch the power sliding doors to the power mode.

  5. Observe the scan tool Left Rear Door Ajar Sw and Right Rear Door Ajar Sw parameters while commanding each power sliding door to CLOSE by using the power sliding door open/close switch. The parameter should change from Ajar to Closed.
  6. If the value does not change, refer to Rear Side Door Actuator Control Module Programming and Setup for the power sliding door initialization procedure.

Circuit/System Testing

Front Door Ajar Malfunction

  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the X2 harness connector at the appropriate door latch.
  2. Test for less than 1 ohm between the ground circuit terminal listed below and ground:
  3. • Driver door latch terminal D
    • Passenger door latch terminal A
If greater than the specified range, test the ground circuit for an open/high resistance.
  4. Ignition ON, verify the scan tool LF Door Ajar Switch and RF Door Ajar Switch parameters are Door Closed.
  5. If not the specified value, test the signal circuit terminal listed below for a short to ground. If the circuit tests normal, replace the BCM.
    • Driver door latch terminal B
    • Passenger door latch terminal C
  6. Install a 3A fused jumper wire between the signal circuit terminal and the ground circuit terminal listed below. Verify the scan tool LF Door Ajar Switch and RF Door Ajar Switch parameters are Door Ajar.
  7. • Driver door latch terminal B and terminal D
    • Passenger door latch terminal C and terminal A
If not the specified value, test the signal circuit for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the BCM.
  8. If all circuits test normal, test or replace the door latch.

Sliding Door Ajar Malfunction

  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the appropriate sliding door jamb contact plate.
  2. Test for less than 1.0 ohm between the ground circuit terminal C and ground.
  3. If greater than the specified range, test the ground circuit for an open/high resistance.
  4. Ignition ON, verify the scan tool Rear Door Ajar Sw parameter is Closed.
  5. If not the specified value, test the signal circuit terminal A for a short to ground. If the circuit tests normal, replace the BCM.
  6. Install a 3A fused jumper wire between the signal circuit terminal A and the ground circuit terminal C. Verify the scan tool Rear Door Ajar Sw parameter is Ajar.
  7. If not the specified value, test the signal circuit for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the BCM.
  8. If all circuits test normal, test or replace the sliding door jamb contact plate.

Component Testing

Sliding Door Jamb Contact Plate

  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the appropriate sliding door jamb contact plate.
  2. With the switch in the open position, test for infinite resistance between the signal terminal A and the ground terminal C.
  3. If not the specified value, replace the sliding door jamb contact plate.
  4. With the switch in the closed position, test for less than 2.0 ohms between the signal terminal A and the ground terminal C.
  5. If greater than the specified range, replace the sliding door jamb contact plate.

Door Latch

  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the appropriate door latch.
  2. With the switch in the open position, test for infinite resistance between the signal terminal and the ground terminal listed below:
  3. • Driver door latch terminal B and terminal D
    • Passenger door latch terminal C and terminal A
If not the specified value, replace the door latch.
  4. With the switch in the closed position, test for less than 2.0 ohms between the signal and the ground terminals listed below:
  5. • Driver door latchterminal B and terminal D
    • Passenger door latch terminal C and terminal A
If greater than the specified range, replace the door latch.
