Did you perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle?

  1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  2. Observe the turn signal lamps and indicators.
  3. Turn ON and OFF the right and left turn signals.

Do the turn signal lamps and indicators operate properly?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections

Are only the turn signal indicators inoperative?

Go to Step 14

Does at least one turn signal on both sides operate properly?

Are all turn signals inoperative?

Using a scan tool, command the turn signals ON and OFF.

Do the turn signals illuminate when commanded?

Test the ground circuit of the turn signal switch for high resistance or an open.

Did you find and correct the condition?

  1. Disconnect the turn signal switch.
  2. Install a fused jumper between the turn signal switch ground circuit and the inoperative turn signal switch signal circuit.

Do the inoperative turn signal lamps illuminate?

  1. Remove the inoperative turn signal bulb. Refer to Park/Turn Signal Lamp Bulb Replacement .
  2. Inspect the bulb filament.

Is the bulb OK?

Go to Step 10

Test the ground circuit of the inoperative lamp for high resistance, or an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs .

Did you find and correct the condition?

Test the supply voltage circuit for the following:

    • An open
    • A high resistance
    • A short to ground

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the multifunction turn signal switch. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs .

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the body control module (BCM). Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs .

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the instrument panel cluster (IPC). Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs .

Repair the high resistance or open in the inoperative turn signal switch signal circuit of the BCM. Refer to Wiring Repairs .
