Rattle Noise or Clunk from the Left Rear Suspension - kw brake park

Subject: Rattle Noise or Clunk from the Left Rear Suspension

Models:.

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom described in the PI.

Condition/Concern:

During 2003 the rear parking brake cable retainer was repositioned to eliminate rattle/clunk concerns. In some cases it may result in a metallic noise or loud clunk from the left rear. This concern may be more pronounced on vehicles built prior to January 2004 with out electronic load leveler control, option G67.

The parking brake cable retainer is positioned directly above the rear trailing arm axle tie rod and in some circumstances contact may occur. Customers may report the vehicle is "bottoming out" when additional weight or passengers are carried.

Recommendation/Instructions:

If you encounter this problem, install retainer part number 10408652. This park brake cable retainer will avoid contact to the tie rod. NOTE: A small degree of noise from the suspension is normal.

Please follow this diagnosis process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed. If these steps do not resolve the condition, please contact GM TAC for further diagnostic assistance.
