Water Leak into Jack Compartment with Power Sliding Door - carpet gasket power PSD rear right seal trunk wet

Subject:Water Leak Into Jack Compartment with Power Sliding Door

Models:.

When servicing the vehicle with the VIN you entered, the following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the described symptoms.

Condition/Concern:

Water leaking into spare tire jack compartment area

Recommendation/Instructions:

If a right Power Sliding Door (PSD) equipped vehicle (RPO: E58) has water in the jack tools area, it may have either of the following: 1) Inadequate sealing at the bottom of the jack compartment; or 2) the grommet in the PSD center roller track not be fully seated allowing water into the right quarter panel.

  1. If the water in the jack compartment is dirty, it is coming off the road. First remove all water and dirt from the jack compartment. Ensure that the compartment is completely clean and dry. Use a flow type sealer on the inside of the jack compartment to seal all joints. When the sealer is set up, use a water hose from underneath the vehicle to check all seams again. Remove the jack from its bag and make sure it is clean, dry , and rust free.
  2. If the water in the jack compartment is clean, it is coming off the body of the van. It flows off the roof, behind the track cover and through the power sliding door grommet. First make sure the grommet is properly seated. This procedure may save time required to remove interior trim and the PSD module.

Tools Needed: Hammer wrapped with tape to prevent interior trim damage and a 12 inch (304.8 mm) long socket extension or equivalent steel rod.

a.) Open liftgate and locate right side 3rd row seat belt cover at tail light height.

b.) Remove cover by pushing down to release top tab. Cover can be left attached to webbing.

c.) NOTE: Placement of extension or rod is critical, e-mail or fax photo showing correct position. The correct position for the extension appears to be even with the forward edge of the seatbelt spool assembly. Place end of socket extension toward front of black PSD bracket and strike hard 3 times (attempting to drive the PSD bracket forward, seating the grommet).

d.) Replace seat belt cover.

If there is still water intrusion, build a small lip over the grommet to divert the flow. Remove the jack from its bag and make sure it is clean, dry , and rust free.

Please follow this diagnosis process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed. If these steps do not resolve the condition, please contact GM TAC for further diagnostic assistance. This diagnostic approach was developed for the vehicle with the VIN you entered and should not be automatically be used for other vehicles with similar symptoms.
