Rear Axle Upper Control Arm Replacement AWD

1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
2. Remove the rear wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
3. Remove the brake caliper and support the bake caliper. Do not disconnect the bake hose. Refer to Rear Brake Caliper Replacement in Disc Brakes.
4. Disconnect the park brake cable from the park brake actuator and the park brake cable bracket.



5. Use a utility stand in order to support the lower control arm.
6. Disconnect the height sensor link from the lower control arm as necessary.
7. Disconnect the shock absorber from the lower control arm. Refer to Shock Absorber Replacement .



8. Remove the upper control arm to knuckle nut and bolt.
9. Use 2 utility stands in order to support the crossmember.
10. Remove the crossmember to underbody bolts.
11. Slowly lower the crossmember until there is enough clearance to remove the upper control arm.



12. Remove the upper control arm to crossmember bolts and nuts.
13. Remove the upper control arm.

1. Install the upper control arm.




Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

3. Install the bolts and the nuts which secure the upper control arm to the crossmember.

Tighten
Tighten the nuts to 85 N·m (63 lb ft).

4. Use 2 utility stands in order to raise the crossmember.
5. Install the crossmember-to-underbody bolts.



6. Install the upper control arm to the knuckle.

Tighten
Tighten the nut which secures the upper control arm to 85 N·m (63 lb ft).

7. Connect the shock absorber to the lower control arm. Refer to Shock Absorber Replacement .
8. Connect the height sensor link to the lower control arm as necessary.
9. Connect the park brake cable to the park brake actuator and the park brake cable bracket.
10. Install the brake caliper. Refer to Rear Brake Caliper Replacement in Disc Brakes.
11. Install the rear wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
12. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
