Makes 🢒 Pontiac 🢒 2002 🢒 Montana 🢒 Body and Accessories 🢒 Lighting Systems 🢒 Underhood Electrical Center or Junction Block Replacement

Removal Procedure
  1. Open and support the hood.

    2. Object Number: 729502 Size: SH
  2. Remove the cover from the underhood electrical center.
  3. Remove the bolt retaining the underhood electrical center to the upper tie bar.

    4. Object Number: 315246 Size: SH
  4. Rotate and remove the electrical center from the right sheet metal diagonal brace.
  5. Remove the right sheet metal diagonal brace. Refer to Front End Sheet Metal Diagonal Brace Replacement - Right Side in Body Front End.
  6. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in Engine Electrical.

    7. Object Number: 628114 Size: SH
  7. Remove the nut (1) retaining the positive battery cable to the underhood electrical center.
  8. Remove the positive battery cable lead (2) from the stud.

    9. Object Number: 729504 Size: SH
  9. Remove the lower cover from the underhood electrical center.
  10. Disconnect the electrical connectors from the underhood electrical center.
  11. Remove the underhood electrical center.

Installation Procedure
  1. Install the underhood electrical center to the engine compartment.

    2. Object Number: 729504 Size: SH

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  2. Install the electrical connectors to the underhood electrical center.

    3. Tighten
    Tighten the underhood accessory wiring junction block electrical harness bolts to 7 N·m (62 lb in).

  3. Install the underhood electrical center lower cover.

    4. Object Number: 628114 Size: SH
  4. Install the positive battery cable lead (2) to the stud on the underhood electrical center.
  5. Install the positive battery cable retaining nut (1).

    6. Tighten
    Tighten the positive battery cable nut to 16 N·m (12 lb ft).

  6. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in Engine Electrical.
  7. Install the right sheet metal diagonal brace. Refer to Front End Sheet Metal Diagonal Brace Replacement - Right Side in Body Front End.

    8. Object Number: 315246 Size: SH
  8. Position the underhood electrical center to the right sheet metal diagonal brace and rotate into position.

    9. Object Number: 729502 Size: SH
  9. Install the bolt to the electrical center at the upper tie bar.

    10. Tighten
    Tighten the underhood electrical center to upper tie bar bolt to 2 N·m (18 lb in).

  10. Install the underhood electrical center cover.
  11. Close the hood.
