Schematic Reference: Interior Lights Schematics

DEFINITION: One of the following lamps is inoperative form its switch:

    • LH or RH roof rail reading lamp
    • LH or RH courtesy reading lamp
    • LH or RH dome reading lamp

Did you review the Exterior Lighting System Description and Operation and perform the necessary inspections?

Go to Step 2

Press each reading lamp switch.

Do all of the reading lamps operate properly?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

Go to Step 3

  1. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
  2. Remove the inoperative reading lamp bulb.
  3. Place the reading lamp switch in the ON position.
  4. Probe the supply voltage circuit and the ground circuit of the bulb socket with a test lamp.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 9

  1. Disconnect the inoperative reading lamp connector.
  2. Probe the supply voltage circuit of the inoperative reading lamp connector with a test lamp that is connected to ground.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 5

With a test lamp, probe between the ground circuit and supply voltage circuit of the inoperative reading lamp connector.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 8

Repair an open or high resistance in the supply voltage circuit of the inoperative reading lamp. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Go to Step 10

Repair an open or high resistance in the ground circuit of the inoperative reading lamp. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Replace the inoperative reading lamp. Refer to one of the following procedures:

    •  Dome Lamp Replacement

Replace the inoperative reading lamp bulb.

Did you complete the repair?

Operate the system in order to verify the repair.

Did you correct the condition?
