Removal Procedure

    Caution: This vehicle is equipped with a Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) System. Failure to follow the correct procedure could cause the following conditions:

       • Air bag deployment
       • Personal injury
       • Unnecessary SIR system repairs
    In order to avoid the above conditions, observe the following guidelines:
       • Refer to SIR Component Views in order to determine if you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring.
       • If you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring, disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System.

  1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System in SIR.
  2. Disconnect the battery negative cable from the battery. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in Engine Electrical.
  3. Remove the left side closeout insulator panel. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Panel Replacement - Left Side in Instrument Panel, Gauges and Console.
  4. Disconnect the steering column electrical connector from the vehicle.
  5. Remove the steering column shrouds. Refer to Steering Column Trim Covers - Disassemble - Off Vehicle .
  6. Remove the ignition lock cylinder. Refer to Ignition Lock Cylinder Replacement - On Vehicle .
  7. Remove the ignition switch. Refer to Ignition and Key Alarm Switch Assembly - Disassemble - Off Vehicle .

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the ignition switch. Refer to Ignition and Key Alarm Switch Assembly - Assemble - Off Vehicle .
  2. Install the ignition lock cylinder. Refer to Ignition Lock Cylinder Replacement - On Vehicle .
  3. Install the steering column shrouds. Refer to Steering Column Trim Covers - Assemble - Off Vehicle .
  4. Connect the steering column electrical connector to the vehicle.
  5. Install the left side closeout insulator panel. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Panel Replacement - Left Side in Instrument Panel, Gauges and Console.
  6. Connect the battery negative cable to the battery. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in Engine Electrical.
  7. Enable the SIR system. Refer to Enabling the SIR System in SIR.
